About the East Cork Sports Hub

About East Cork Sports Hub

East Cork Sports Hub, or ECSH, is a community-led initiative working to secure a regional, multi-sport and community campus for Midleton and the wider East Cork area.

The initiative has been developed in response to the growing pressure on existing facilities, the absence of key sporting infrastructure and the exceptional population growth planned for the region.

ECSH is not a proposal for one individual club or sporting code. It is a shared vision for facilities that could be used by clubs, schools, community groups, athletes, families and residents from across East Cork.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to help ensure that sporting and community infrastructure keeps pace with the growth of East Cork.

Our Goal

Our goal is to work constructively with Cork County Council, public representatives and other stakeholders to identify a suitable site and establish a realistic pathway for delivering the hub.

The project remains at an early stage, but the need is clear, the evidence is strong and the opportunity must be protected before suitable land becomes more difficult to secure.

A Community-Led Initiative

The people behind ECSH have been working to advance the need for additional sporting infrastructure since 2018.

The promoter group brings together experience from business and leadership, education, science and engineering, public life, community activism and sporting development.

During that time, the group has:

Our Principles

Community First

ECSH is intended to serve the wider community, not one organisation or interest group.

Regional in Scale

The hub would be based in the Midleton area but designed to serve communities throughout East Cork.

Multi-Sport by Design

The vision brings athletics, field sports, indoor activities, recreation and community use together within one campus.

Inclusive and Accessible

Facilities should support people of different ages, abilities, backgrounds and levels of sporting participation.

Phased and Practical

The project would be developed in stages as land, planning, funding and delivery arrangements are secured.

Evidence-Led

The case for ECSH is supported by population data, independent feasibility research, local participation figures and direct feedback from clubs and communities.

Local Support

Support from Across Local Sport

ECSH has attracted support from clubs, schools, businesses, voluntary groups and community organisations.

CEASC has also identified ECSH as the best and most practical route to achieving its objective of developing an athletics track for Midleton and East Cork.

This support demonstrates the potential for ECSH to provide a shared regional solution to several long-standing infrastructure needs.
